Thanks for your comments and ideas Judy! Proper communication confirmation is often overlooked. It is difficult to move forward with an agenda or program if your followers are not listening or if they are not periodically reminded of your message. Thank you again for pointing this out.

Thanks Ken, fantastic points! That secrecy and seclusion of insecure leaders that you referred to also serves to erode any trust that they may have acquired and disenfranchise those that follow that leader. Becoming protective of leadership capital is counteractive and self defeating.
Thanks again,
Chuck

Hi Dave
Thanks for you comment. The first step for those struggling with transparency would be to recognize how being transparent simplifies and opens up their life to new possibilities. When we constantly struggle with masking our feelings and beliefs, we expend so much energy in doing that, that it depletes energy from enjoyment, giving, creativity, and growing. Masking also discourages others willingness to communicate resulting in less receptivity to our persons ideas.
Thanks again,
Chuck

Good post, Chuck. I've seen insecure leaders mistakenly equate secrecy and seclusion with "leadership" quality. The most successful leaders have cultivated and mentored talent without feeling threatened. They adapt and embrace change so that vision continually evolves, not locked into a dogmatic and static model that may have been successful in the past. To me, effective leaders inspire and manage change.

Darwin is often misunderstood and misquoted by some in the business world, but this is my favorite quote from him: "It's not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change."

Keep up the insightful blogs!

For sure, this is part of the larger issue of leaders assuming everyone is on the same page. Many leaders don't ask enough questions to confirm that their message has been accurately received and remembered over time. This dovetails with your point that leaders often don't confirm that they accurately receive communication from subordinates. Great article. Thank you!
